7th Grade State Mandated Screenings

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health requires the school nurse to screen all 7th graders for vision, hearing, and BMI (body mass index).  Your child will be screened during physical education class during the month of November.  Your child's privacy is respected at all times and results are confidential.  You will be notified if your child does not pass the vision or hearing screening.  The state no longer requires the school nurse to notify parents of BMI results, but you are welcome to contact me at any time for this information. Please contact me if you wish to opt out of some/all screenings or if you have any questions.  More information on postural screening will be coming in January.

Some EpiPens may be used beyond the expiration date

The FDA recently released a statement indicating that certain EpiPen lots have been tested and approved to be used beyond the expiration date.  Please see the link below for included lot numbers.

EpiPen extended use list

Need EpiPens? Want them for FREE?

Does your child need an EpiPen for school, or has you child's EpiPen expired?  Here is the link to a coupon for EpiPens for $0 copay, valid through December 2017:

https://www.epipen.com/copay-offer/

Most people with commercial insurance will qualify for up to three EpiPen 2-Paks for $0.  People with severe food allergies should have two EpiPens with them at all times.  This program is great because it allows you to have multiple EpiPens for your child to keep at school, at home, in a sports bag, etc., and gives you peace of mind that this life-saving medicine is available wherever your child is.

Did you know that teenagers and young adults with food allergies are at the highest risk of fatal food-induced anaphylaxis?  Please help us keep our students safe at school by always having an EpiPen available.

Breakfast at Pentucket

Did you know that Pentucket serves BREAKFAST?  We find that many students don't eat breakfast, and the most common reason is not enough time.  Students can purchase breakfast on their way into the building.

The cost is $1.25, and it includes: one main choice (egg sandwich, fresh-baked muffin, cereal OR smoothie) AND up to five sides (yogurt, fruit, juice, cheese stick, AND/OR milk).  This is a pretty fantastic bargain, and a great way to start the day.  :)

POTASSIUM IODIDE: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
